A lesson to be learned

veers letter 199x300 A lesson to be learnedI’m working on a web design layout landing page for one of my clients.  He send me the texts for this page. Now I’m no copywriter nor was I born last night.  In reading his texts I kept seeing  words like ” economic downturn “ ” downturn economy “ keep poping up. I’ve been in the Freelance business for a long time now.

One thing that I learn is when your talking about you and your service don’t add in negative words.

For me ” economic downturn ” ” downturn economy ” are negative words.

Doesn’t make me want to do business.  Here in France we have the same problem with these type of negative words.

So I gave a piece of advice to my client that I’m going to share with you.

Focus on what you can provide and why client would want to work with you.

Everybody saying the same thing in the media, newspaper, tv  ” economic downturn ” ” downturn economy ” that doesn’t mean you should repeat this phase in your business.

It everywhere this bad word ! use positive phase like why should I want to work with you.

Give me examples like : I spend 3.00 dollars now and when I use your service I can save 1.50 dollars.

But I need you to make this saving.

You see use more postive phases and stay away from negative phase like ” economic downturn ” ” downturn economy ” all that does is make me want to not spend money  you and your services.

Hope this help you out. :-)

  1. « Rachael I agree, in an ideal world, but a lot of marketing plays on the negative rather than the positive in times of economic downturn…for example loan considation companies need to really push the economic downturn and its effects in their consumer marketing…so I think it depends on the product or service you’re marketing as to whether to play on the negative or the positive…
(Just so you know, you have a typo on “learn” it should be learnt)… »
